Justin Nelson: Bridging Tufts Students to Careers at JP Morgan

A prominent figure at JP Morgan, Justin Nelson has played an instrumental role in opening doors for Tufts University students
seeking careers in finance. His journey from a junior at Tufts to a managing
director in asset management at JP Morgan is both inspiring and influential.

In the late 1990s, Nelson was a chemistry and economics student at Tufts University who aspired to
break into the finance industry. However, the lack of a structured network made
his search for a summer internship challenging. Fortunately, through personal
connections, Nelson secured a web development internship at JP Morgan in New
York City. This opportunity led to a full-time role upon his graduation and set
the stage for his future successes.

By 2006, Justin Nelson had advanced to a significant position within JP Morgan Private Bank division. Motivated by a desire to assist fellow Tufts
students, he initiated efforts to establish Tufts as one of JP Morgan’s core
recruiting schools. This status would mean active recruitment of Tufts students
for internships and full-time positions within the firm.

Initially, Justin Nelson faced hurdles, including a lack of financial and
logistical support from JP Morgan. Yet, his dedication paid off. Over a few
years, he managed to attract more Tufts students to apply, eventually resulting
in the recruitment of 20 graduates into various roles within JP Morgan’s asset
management division.

Jon Trott, a Tufts alumnus, directly benefited from Nelson’s efforts. Trott secured a summer
internship at JP Morgan during a period of economic uncertainty, which
transitioned into a full-time position post-graduation. Stories like Trott’s
highlight the impact of Nelson’s initiatives.

Today, a robust network of Tufts alumni exists at JP Morgan, thanks to Justin Nelson. These
graduates actively participate in recruiting, mentoring, and guiding current
students. Nelson’s contributions have not only strengthened the relationship
between Tufts and JP Morgan but also provided numerous students with invaluable
career opportunities. Like this page on Facebook, to learn more.
