HIG Capital Co-Founders Guide Firm’s Multi-Billion Dollar Expansion

HIG Capital’s co-founders Sami Mnaymneh and Tony Tamer have overseen the firm’s evolution into a $70 billion investment platform through strategic expansions across multiple asset classes and geographic markets.

Mnaymneh, who serves as Founder, Executive Chairman and CEO, directs the firm’s development and approves all capital commitments. He previously held a Managing Director role at The Blackstone Group before co-establishing HIG Capital in 1993. Tamer, Founder and Executive Chairman, brought consulting expertise from Bain & Company to help build the comprehensive investment platform.

Their leadership has positioned HIG Capital as “one of largest and most active credit investors in the middle market,” according to the co-founders’ assessment of the platform’s market position. This expertise underlies the recent $5.9 billion close of H.I.G. WhiteHorse Middle Market Lending Fund IV, the firm’s largest fundraising effort for its direct lending operations.

The WhiteHorse division has deployed approximately $18 billion across U.S. middle market transactions, focusing on senior secured loans to companies with EBITDA between $30 million and $100 million. Stuart Aronson, Executive Managing Director and CEO of H.I.G. WhiteHorse, emphasized the strategy’s market timing advantages.

Recent organizational enhancements include the establishment of a GP Solutions Platform through the recruitment of four senior professionals from Morgan Stanley’s private equity secondaries division. The team will pursue continuation vehicles and GP-led transactions as demand for alternative liquidity solutions continues growing across the private equity industry.

HIG Capital has also reinforced its Small-Cap & Growth division by adding Harrison B. Davis as Managing Director, bringing over 15 years of lower middle market experience to the Miami headquarters. The strategic team additions reflect the founders’ commitment to building capabilities across the full spectrum of middle market investments.

The firm operates from 19 offices spanning North America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. Since founding, HIG Capital has invested in more than 400 companies across private equity, growth equity, real estate, direct lending, infrastructure, special situations debt, and growth-stage healthcare strategies.
